Education:
• Bachelor of Science or Masters of Science in wetland ecology, biology, environmental sciences, or related discipline
Licenses:
• Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) Certification or the ability to obtain PWS certification within one year of hire date.
Software:
• Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite software. AutoCAD/Land Development and/or GIS skills are a plus but not required.
Candidate must be able to travel with some overnight travel is required. Field work and the ability to work in adverse weather conditions is an essential function of this position.
Job Description :This position will provide support for ecological assessment activities for multiple environmental projects by defining the problem, reviewing the data, completing the analysis, interpreting the results, and clearly communicating the findings. The successful candidate will perform wetland delineations, habitat surveys, soil surveys, write reports, habitat management and wetland mitigation/monitoring plans. The candidate will conduct meetings with county officials and federal agency professionals and will assist in preparation of proposals.
This position will be part of the Ecology Team in the Environmental Division. The team, which is responsible for a wide range of field-related work, consists of approximately 5 team members ranging in experience from one to over 20 years. This position will report to the Ecology Team Leader and will be working in a team of staff, which includes senior, mid-level, and junior ecologists, and field crew. This person would also be working with project managers and both internal and external customers.
The candidate will utilize the following skills in this position:
• NEPA compliance
• Wetland delineation experience
• Section 404 permitting experience in both nationwide and individual permits
• Wetland mitigation site design, implementation and monitoring experience
• Threatened and endangered species assessments experience
• Rare species surveys
• Plant identification
• General habitat assessment experience
• Geographical Information Systems/Remote sensing
The ideal candidate would possess excellent communication verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must be able to discuss the most technical aspects of projects with a wide range of people, to produce direct and clearly written technical reports, and to interface effectively with the ecology team and support staff. The candidate must be open to dialogue and scientific disagreement regarding project work, and to be able to creatively problem solve to ensure client satisfaction and regulatory compliance.
This position requires a working understanding of civil engineering or construction processes related to oil and gas development, water resources, transportation, or other development.
The candidate should have well developed positive working relationships with federal agency personnel region wide, including, but not limited to the USACE, FERC, BLM, and USFWS. A strong background in the botany and wildlife of the region is preferred.
The ideal candidate would have scientific skills that would increase the technical expertise of the ecology team. AutoCAD/GIS skills preferred.
