The Senior Database Specialist will be the database technical lead for the equity and currency trading systems.
The candidate will be expected to be heavily involved in the following areas:
Create complex queries to support regulatory reporting, Trade Cost Analysis reporting (TCA), and other information needs as required by the business users
Contribute to an enterprise data warehouse project
Recommend and help plan/implement data model improvements
Design and manage the increasing use of streaming market data
Facilitate the design and growth of historical and real-time analytical processing systems
Support the development and use of business intelligence tools
Monitor and improve database/caching performance and capacity planning
Construction of logical and physical database models
Facilitate the long term goal of moving the trading systems from Sybase to Oracle
This position will require strong Sybase/Oracle SQL skills and trading systems knowledge. The candidate will be expected, largely through their own initiative, to quickly become intimately familiar with the data model used in the trading systems, including data flows. External data flows include FIX messaging to and from hundreds of brokers and streaming market data. Internal data flows include upstream order management systems and downstream settlement systems.
The candidate should be a self-starter and also be able to contribute to and lead small teams. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the strategic and tactical use of data within the equity and currency trading applications.
Hiring Criteria
Advanced knowledge of database design principles and best practices
Prior experience with transactional and analytical database practices
Prior experience using a structured development methodology
Prior experience with multi-threaded, message-based systems
Prior experience with caching technologies
Prior experience implementing database transfers/mappings
Prior experience in logical and physical database modeling
Thorough understanding of the software development life cycle
Prior experience with trading systems and/or securities industry
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience leading and mentoring other team members
The ability to create a positive and professional business relationship with internal and external clients
B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent
Technical Skills:
Strong Sybase and Oracle experience developing complex queries
At least 6 years experience as a Database Developer/Database Architect (Database administrator experience is a plus)
Experience developing complex transactional data models
Experience with a structured SDLC
Ability to lead and mentor other developers in database best practices
Experience managing streaming market data preferred
Experience with Informatica PowerCenter preferred
Experience with programming languages (Java, C++, C#) preferred
Experience with trading systems a plus
Experience with ERWIN a plus
Experience with BI tools a plus
