Title: Database Administrator/ Analyst (SQL Database)
Reports to: Senior IT Project Manager
Position Objectives
This position is the lead SQL2000/2005 SQL database administrator/analyst. The position will work closely with project managers, application teams as well as system engineers.
Essential Functions System Admin Functions: 40%
• SQL2000 and SQL2005 database administration and monitoring.
• Participation in disaster recovery and database backup and recovery planning and testing.
• Direct system engineers to install patches necessary for system reliability and security.
• Assess and monitor database storage requirements.
• Direct system engineers to modify storage configuration as needed. • Develop reporting frameworks and standards for SQL databases.
• Identify performance bottlenecks, and tune SQL queries.
Integration/Database Development Functions: 20%
• Create and alter database objects including integration between SQL and other databases (DB2).
Analyst Functions: 40%
• Use vendor technical support to aid in the investigation and resolution of application issues.
• Develop and maintain technical drawings and documentation using Visio.
• Develop general understanding of applications running on SQL databases.
• Assist project managers and end-users with queries and reports against SQL databases.
• Perform other work as directed.

Position Requirements
• Minimum 3 years experience administrating Microsoft SQL 2000 or SQL2005 databases required. At least 1 year experience administrating Microsoft SQL 2005 databases required.
• Minimum 1 year experience developing applications utilizing Microsoft SQL databases and Visual Basic required.
• Proficient in writing SQL queries and stored procedures. Experience with java applications utilizing Microsoft SQL Server database desired.
• Experience with database installations, upgrades, migrations, backup and recovery in Microsoft SQL database environment required.
• Experience administering Windows Server 2003 systems in an Active Directory environment desired.
• Experience in virtualized (VMWare) and/or clustered environment desired.
• Experience administering and/or converting Microsoft SQL Server databases to large scale databases such as Oracle desired.
• Experience with migrating Microsoft Access applications to Microsoft SQL Server desired.
• Experience with resolving SQL Server performance and locked process related issues required.
• Experience with SQL performance monitoring and measurement tools required.
• Experience with integration between iSeries (AS/400) and Microsoft SQL Server databases desired.
• Experience with reporting tools and services desired.
• Must possess a thorough understanding of relational database fundamentals, including design, implementation, maintenance, recovery, backup and performance tuning.
• Ability to prepare project plans and scheduling decisions for database upgrades and maintenance.
• Ability to communicate and work with Development team to resolve non-maintenance related issues.
• Familiarity with SQL Server Development including Transact-SQL.
• Working knowledge of operating system administration including user account maintenance and scripting.
• Experience resolving and escalating technical problems quickly with vendor support organizations.
• Strong oral and written communications skills are required to effectively interact with management, customers and vendors.
• Ability to make decisions under pressure and support systems in a 24x7 environment.
• Good working knowledge of Windows Server 2003.
• Must possess good working knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
• Experience working in a SAN storage environment required.
• Ability to develop and maintain technical drawings and documentation using Visio, Excel, and Word.
Education and Skills Required
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems required
• Training in Microsoft SQL required, certification desired
• Training in Windows Server 2003 required, certification desired
• Must be a logical thinker, as well as organized, neat, and in possession of strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
• Must have an appreciation for and commitment to standards, documentation and system security.
• Must be a proactive self starter with a solid understanding of what is required to administer mission critical database systems in a 24/7 environment.
• The individual must be proficient in the basic Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
• Experience with Microsoft Project desired.
