We now seek an experienced Educator to design and instruct courses for inmates in ABE/ASE (Adult Basic Education/Adult Secondary Education) in preparation of GED testing.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Utilizing the latest current educational resource material -- prepares training plans, course curriculum, lesson plans, training scripts, student handouts, course materials and a variety of audio and visual materials; supervises and instructs inmates in group and one-on-one settings; assesses each student; develops specialized curricula as needed; assures Inmate Payroll deadlines are met; provides evaluative feedback on software programs designed to assist in GED preparation; researches professional literature or other technical reference material to insure a continuous and up-to-date source of topical and relevant education materials; maintains a complete and up-to-date educational resource file and education records file; assigns tasks, demonstrates techniques and advises on improvement of performance; confers with other staff members, specialists, consultants and members of the treatment or education team, discussing, planning and determining courses of action in student/inmate education; corrects tests and workbook papers and scores tests; performs educational needs assessment using standard tools, surveys, interviews and other special techniques to establish specific learning objectives; plans, organizes and schedules times, dates, facilities and locations for inmate classes; develops essential course materials including a range of audio-visual materials using a variety of media equipment (video, tv, etc.); composes scripts and other materials for pre-recorded audio-visual programs; develops a variety of student handouts including supplemental reading material, programmed learning devices, problems, self quizzes, etc.; performs course evaluation to determine effectiveness and to determine changes to present educational approaches to enhance and refine teaching; assists other agency personnel in determining their specific teaching needs and in developing approaches to satisfy the needs; maintains student files; assists with other security functions as needed; administers a variety of tests in order to measure progress of students and to evaluate teaching effectiveness.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of basic regulations and practices associated with prison emergency activities; knowledge of basic instructional and training procedures and practices; knowledge of life-span learning; skill in public speaking; skill in training; skill in lesson planning and visual aid preparation; ability to adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs, abilities, and interests; ability to maintain tool control and classification, inventory, inmate count, escorting of inmates between classes and units; skill in classroom management and discipline; skill in maintenance of inmate records and files; ability to supervise inmates in groups, and one-on-one settings; ability to keep current on all new technology in the assigned fields; ability to obtain a minimum of 40 hours In- Service training annually; skill in and ability to set appropriate personal/professional boundaries.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree in education, communications, or a field related to the program area, PLUS two years of professional work experience as a trainer, INCLUDING the majority of time spent in a training capacity.Preference will be given to candidates with a current Wyoming Teaching certificate.
