This position is located in Hamilton, MT.
The primary purpose of this position is to respond to service calls requiring, servicing, and repairing buildings and related fixtures and performs inspections on both routine and emergency type basis requiring the use of trade practices associated with occupations in the mechanical, electrical, carpentry, pipe fitting, plumbing, and associated trades in BSL facilities.

MAJOR DUTIES:

The employee serves at the journeymen level, repairing, operating, and maintaining all mechanical equipment in the RML buildings.Provides backup for other workers in the branch including supporting the electricians, plumbers, and carpenters as needed.
Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
Inspects, operates, maintains and repairs building HVAC systems.These systems include supply and exhaust air handler units, terminal re heat, variable air volume, constant air volume, zone control, and induction units.Familiarity with motor controls, building automations system, variable frequency drives, cooling towers and steam, hot water and cooling coils is needed.
Steam Distribution Equipment:
Inspects, operates, adjusts maintains, and repairs steam distribution systems on systems ranging from 2 psig to 165 psig.This includes valves, reducing stations, pilot control valves, traps, condensate tanks and pumps, water heaters, and industrial and domestic heat exchangers.Requires knowledge of steam systems sufficient to diagnose the problem and restore the system to normal operation within a timely manner.
Refrigeration Equipment:
Inspects, operates, adjusts, maintains, and makes repairs to refrigeration equipment, including domestic refrigerators freezer units, cold and constant temperature walk-in rooms, and humidifying and de humidifying equipment.
A journey level degree of knowledge is required in proper functions and limitations of the steam distribution, HVAC, refrigeration and desired in specialized systems such as chillers (centrifugal, absorption, rotary screw), air compressors, vacuum pumps, and sterilization equipment.Must have the ability to read and interpret complicated operating, maintenance and repair instruction, control diagrams, blueprints, and specification.Has the knowledge to diagnose and calibrate complex pneumatic/electronic control systems, both conventional and computerized, manufactured by a wide range of companies.Has a working knowledge to air balance laboratory, animal, office, and computer facilities.Must be able to calculate necessary air quantities/changes in CFM and FPM.Has a working knowledge to troubleshoot electrical systems.Must be capable of using needed air balancing instruments, including BAS, manometer, velometer, and hot wire anemometer.Has range of knowledge of plumbing including backflow preventers, booster pumps, wastewater collection, and domestic and industrial hot and cold water systems.
