The Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health is seeking a Facilities Director for its three clinical laboratories including a main facility in Decatur and two regional laboratories in Albany and Waycross.

Under minimal supervision, plans and directs administrative and operational activities for three clinical laboratories. Ensures proper functioning of all major facility systems at all times. Implements policies and procedures, establishes and maintains a facility safety program. Coordinates routine purchasing activities. Coordinates the bidding and contracting program for system components. Establishes and coordinates a key control program. Responsible for maintenance of fire alarms, extinguishers, sprinkler and security systems, including video surveillance system. Coordinates the removal of hazardous materials, destruction of records. 


 

Qualifications


Three years of experience in facilities management. Comprehensive knowledge of facility operations, maintenance and repair practices, skilled trades equipment, tools, building operations, and computerized maintenance/automated systems. Working skill in interpreting and applying blueprints, specifications, and equipment manuals; determining types and amounts of material, labor and associated costs to perform required tasks. Considerable skill in supervising personnel and in written and oral communication. Ability to direct, supervise and plan the work of others engaged in performing skilled trade duties; to perform skilled duties without supervision, trouble shoot and/or diagnose problems, determine types of materials and labor force to perform assigned tasks. Knowledge of cleaning tasks, work methods, chemicals, and equipment. Knowledge of safety policies and procedures. Prolonged standing, stooping and walking is required. Must have valid Georgia driver's license. Will be required to be on call after working hours for emergencies. 

NOTE: Completion of a bachelor's degree in engineering or business administration from a four-year college or university or completion of a vocational/technical school program in facilities management, construction management or a directly related field may substitute for up to one year of the experience requirement. 

The successful candidate for this position must comply with the Patriot Act of 2001 and with requirements related to the Select Agent Program (SA) including FBI/CJIS security risk assessment. U.S. Citizenship required. Incumbent will serve as the Assistant Responsible Officer (R.O.) for S.A.-approved facilities. 

Occasional overnight travel required.
 

Preference will be give to applicants who, in addition to meeting the above requirements, possess knowledge/experience in one or more of the following: 

 

 A bachelor's degree at a four-year college or university in engineering *OR* completion of a college program in facilities management, construction management, or a directly related field.
Experience in hospital or laboratory facility management. Knowledge of biological safety requirements and related systems.
Experience overseeing construction projects.
