SUMMARY
·The incumbent is responsible for the make ready, operation and maintenance of a web press.
Produces top quality product cost effectively.
·All job responsibilities are to be performed in strict adherence with the company’s
Mission/Values Statement and in accordance with established standards for external customers as
well as internal customers.
Key Responsibilities ·ROLL STAND. Opens rolls; removes and saves tags; inspects roll for damage; correctly inserts
and inflates roll shaft; hangs and aligns rolls; webs up press from roll-stand to folder; sets
web guide sensors to correct paper width.
·FOLDER. Sets nip rollers; changes and/or adjusts cut blade, head perf, tucker blades, adjusts
and sets workbook perfs, folder pins, cutting rubber, spine perf, shear pins, stripping fingers;
sets former board and/or diverts and compensators paper size; checks and adjusts chopper for
correct fold configuration.
·STACKER. Adjusts paper feed guides to stacker; sets jogger width; sets stacker belt tension;
adjusts stacker and table speeds; centers strapping on bundles; sets bundle length; changes
strapping reel.
·PRINT UNIT. Engages print units and remotes; correctly installs end blocks; hangs blankets;
checks water flow to units; sets and adjusts dampening system; sets and adjusts rollers.
·MAKE READY. Reads quality plan. Webs press; checks plates for imperfections; hangs plates;
engages blanket washers and checks washer cloth; compares sigs to blue lines / samples / color
proofs; adjusts and sets ink / water balance; adjusts and sets ink density; insures folds are
square and free of imperfections; adjusts press register; ensures proper person is available for
press check; completes and applies press check labels. Obtains old web press checklist and works
with customer on customer OK’s.
·PRESS RUN: Safely operates stacker/bundler; installs strapping material; palletizes finished
bundles; removes full pallets from press area; pulls copies during run and performs quality
check; checks bundler copies for quality issues; pulls and numbers control copies; ensures all
press equipment is adjusted and running correctly; ensures all documentation and checklists are
completed.
·WASH UP. Washes up the press; correctly mounts wash up trays into print units; removes ink from
fountains; washes ink out of rollers using proper chemicals; cleans ink knives, end blocks and
fountain; cleans and returns wash up trays to proper area, returns extra stock to materials with
proper documentation; returns any unused ink to designated area; properly discards ink that is
non-returnable.
·MAINTENANCE. Maintains and lubricates the press following the procedures outlined in the
maintenance document on the press.
·HOUSEKEEPING. Maintains the press area in an orderly manner at all times, using any down time
to clean and maintain the pressroom.
·ENVIRONMENTAL. Disposes of all waste materials in a proper manner; records necessary
information regarding wastes or chemical use on appropriate logs; ensures compliance with state
and federal regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Three to five years experience in web press operation; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Strong understanding of printing processes and terminology.
