In August 2008, Rosa Parks Elementary School will implement a Spanish immersion strand. Parents/guardians of kindergarteners who desire their children to be involved in full Spanish immersion - where core classes are taught in that language - will enroll their child in that program. Upon full implementation in the years to come, one section of immersion at each grade level will exist unless parent/guardian interest drives the need for more sections.
In Fall 2009, Rosa Parks Elementary School will have a Global Studies/World Language Specialized School. Each student enrolled in traditional classes at Rosa Parks will receive 15 minutes of Spanish instruction every day. In addition, students will learn the District's curriculum with a global perspective. The goal is to help students gain an appreciation of what is happening in the world today and how that interacts with life in Sioux Falls.
Requirements:
South Dakota Teaching Certification with Elementary Education Endorsement
Highly Qualified Teacher Status prior to August 2008
Spanish Language fluency and curriculum training
