The Iowa Juvenile Home is seeking a candidate for an Activities Specialist 1. This position will plan, organize and arrange therapeutic activities for adolescents experiencing significant behavioral problems, emotional disturbances and mental illnesses.The Activities Specialist 1 will conduct initial recreational assessments of youth and then work with members of the treatment teams to provide outlets that teach social and leisure skills. Responsibilities include scheduling of activities, supervision of individual youth and small groups, arranging andtransporting youth to off campus eventsand community service projects, and providing considerable communication with treatment teams.The Activities Specialist 1 also serves as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Iowa Juvenile Home, ensuring all volunteers are thoroughly screened and then matched appropriately with youth or services at IJH. This position will also be involved in presentations in the community to educate and offer opportunities for volunteer experiences. Volunteer Coordinator responsibilities include monthly tracking of volunteer hours, insuring complete records and applications are kept, orientating new volunteers to their role and coordinating contact between IJH youth and volunteers.Candidate must be highly organized, show much self-initiative, a team player, posess good communication skills and definitely interested in forming therapeutic relationships with youth.Personal computer experience would be helpful.Schedule:Friday 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm / 5:30 pm -8:00 pmSaturday 10:30 am - 7:00 pmTuesday 12:00 pm -5:00 pm / 5:30 pm - 8:00 pmWednesday 9:00 am - 11:30 am / 12:30 pm - 8:00 pmThursday 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm / 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
