Description
Lead the Process Safety, Occupational Safety, and Industrial Hygiene programs at BASFsEvans City, PA site. The Evans City facility utilizes sophisticated chemical processes uniquewithin BASF to make catalysts for the pharmaceutical industry and other applications.
Provide technical and regulatory expertise to ensure compliance, safe work places, and continuous improvement of Health and Safety programs. Advise site management of compliance concerns.
Provide strategic direction on safety related matters to thesite leadership team, including recommendations on process safety technology, safety culture advancement, emergency preparedness, hazard recognition and abatement, and loss prevention.
Provide expertise during capital project reviews to identify EHS issues/opportunities.
Participate in process hazard analyses.
Support incident reporting and investigations through participation in investigations, analysis of trends, promotion of correct root cause determination and corrective actions.
Assist the Product Steward with third party issues, and with site related issues as needed
Assist with emergency planning efforts for the site, including serving as an emergency coordinator.
Establish and maintain safety related training curriculum, including providing site specific content where appropriate.
Support the interface with regulatory agencies and third parties, as needed, on compliance and enforcement issues.
Facilitate the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices with other BASF sites. Provide support for other sites as needed through a shared services organization.
Work with other EHS experts on internal BASF work teams or task forcesto develop and implement safety tools and processes for application throughout BASF.Lead teams as assigned.
Support implementation of BASF's Responsible Care Management System at the Evans City and elsewhere as assigned.
Qualifications
BS Engineering or Sciences. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
Eight (8) years or more of demonstrated experience implementing safety programs in a manufacturing and laboratory environment, preferably in the chemical industry
Registration with a certification body (i.e., PE, CSP, CIH) is recommended.
Strong working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Process Safety regulations and technology
Good working knowledge of Industrial Hygiene regulations and technology
Demonstrated experience with providing safety leadership and strategic direction
Ability to solve most complex problems and technical issues in a collaborative environment
