Position Description

Grade: GEN3Salary band: £33,532 - £46,945Purpose of the RoleTo provide specialist Electrical & Instrumentation technical support to Capital Projects and Maintenance team. Identify and implement new and / or improvements to the existing electrical and instrumentation systems at the Genzyme Haverhill Operations, with a focus on safety, efficiency and reliability.Role Dimensions•Report to Head of Capital Projects. •Required to liaise with engineering, maintenance, production and scientific personnel at all levels.•Will require developing, taking part in and managing cross functional project teams / work groups to implement new and improvement strategic & operational projects / initiatives.Key Responsibilities•To provide conceptual design, prepare cost estimates, support detail design, procurement, installation, and participate in commissioning and validation activities for numerous ongoing projects. All work to be undertaken within the agreed budget, timescale, quality and performance criteria and in accordance with recognised safety, cGMP, corporate standards and site/departmental operating procedures.•Responsible for providing specialist technical support to Project and Maintenance Engineering teams on Electrical & Instrumentation areas of projects, and for preparing specification, design, procurement, installation and validation as specified and requested by Engineers.•To review and approve all Electrical & Instrument design specifications on all projects to ensure compliance with company and relevant regulatory requirements.•Direct and supervise Instrument Technicians and Electricians and Contract labour in execution of their duties, ensuring good communication, training, GMP, and safety compliance and to achieve schedule and budget targets and minimum disruption to production.•Assists Maintenance Engineering on Electrical, Instrument and Controls breakdown issues and provide technical expertise and troubleshooting support.•To manage all Electrical, Instrumentation and Control related projects directly assigned to him/her ensuring that they meet all agreed targets of cost, schedule, quality and compliance. This includes all activities from concept design, detail design to final implementation and close out.•To maintain an up to date knowledge of technological advance in electrical instrumentation and control systems so that the company acquires the correct state of the art facility for manufacturing its products hence increasing its competitiveness.•To liaise closely with External consultants, engineers and contractors during the project execution ensuring all work carried out by them is within the requirements of the overall project remit.Relationships•Individual will work with project teams, other departments and Genzyme sites, senior management, and contractors to represent his / her functional area and also act as site leader for cross-site initiatives. Will be Influential in the department and may stand in for more senior colleagues.•Communicate clearly, interpreting and explaining complex technical aspects to non-technical or non-expert audiences.Scope/Impact•Work is not supervised directly but reviewed against agreed plans and results. Once aim is established will proceed under own direction. The individual is expected to take a lead role for Electrical & Instrumentation activities within the project team.•Recognised as a key technical resource within own functional area handling several operational projects or support larger strategic projects. Effective input will result in their segment of a project being delivered on time, within cost and quality parameters.•Contribute to Genzyme’s Continuous Improvement Programme such as Energy Monitoring / Energy Conservation, use of Variable Speed Drives.Knowledge, Skills and Experience RequiredMust have:•HND or B.Sc. degree qualification in Electrical & Instrumentation or a closely related field.•Experience in pharmaceutical or similar heavily regulated industry.•Experience will include design & installation of industrial electrical systems knowledge with specific experience in motor drives (both AC and DC), motor controls centers, and conventional relay logic control.•Candidate should have experience with various instrumentation systems, including selection and application, as well as the ability to troubleshoot PLC and SMART instruments and intrinsically safe circuits.•Candidate should be familiar with various standards and codes such as UK IEE Regulation 16th Edition and NFPA 70 National Electric Code. •Some experience with mechanical systems is needed, such as pumps, fans and heat exchangers.•Electrical system design, installation and testing according to GAMP, BS 7671 and BS EN60079. Implementation of BS IEC 61508/61511 for safety instrumented systems. Analysis and correction of complex problems in distribution systems and provision of power load calculations. •Experience of switch gear, transformers, emergency generators, motor drives, feeder distributions fire alarm security and control systems•Experience including high voltage, distribution, transformers, switch gear, and RMUs. Desirable:•Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a relevant professional body.•Affiliation to a relevant professional body, & NICEIC accreditation or C&G 2391.•Conversant with cGMP , GLP•Relevant EH&S training including hazardous area classification, ATEX DSEAR regulation.•Awareness of current CDM Regulations & its application.•Compex (or equivalent) certified for work in hazardous areas.Key CompetenciesManaging & delivering - Able to show sound judgment in developing and executing plans in a cost-effective and timely manner adhering to safety, regulatory and quality compliance guidelines.Team Player – Able to fit in to team, develop effective and supportive relationship with colleagues by showing consideration and creating a sense of team spirit.Building relationships - Develops and fosters outstanding relationships with people both within and outside of Genzyme able to show they can develop formal and informal networks.Problem Solving – Uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; probes all fruitful sources for answers; can see hidden problems; is an excellent at honest analysis; looks beyond the obvious and does not adopt the first answerMaking things happen - Has a record of achieving tasks through persistence and drive, meeting and balancing the needs of different stakeholders and making decisions that are in the best interests of the Genzyme business.
