* Bring in and empty incoming bags, boxes, and containers of specimens from dock area
* Separate & sort specimens by category
* Open individual specimen containers, discard cardboard & remove specimens
* Match information from consent form & specimen, then barcode specimen
* Complete consent signature & stamp consents
* Scan barcodes and consent (paper, bottle, tube) into computer system
* Enter consents in computer system as necessary
* Aliquot urine specimens
* Check & verify counts in computer after each page; correct miscounts
* Print aliquot & chain of custody sheets to appropriate areas
* Clean up work area, dispose of trash
* Assist courier coordinator with weighing specimen shipments
* Dump negative urine specimens
Launder lab coats
(2) Aliquot blood specimens for screening
(2) Realiquot blood & urine specimens for screening
(2) Accession GC/MS only specimens
(2) Process insurance & clinical trials specimens
(3) Enter ?blind? specimens into computer
(3) Aliquot specimens for GC/MS testing
Other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
EDUCATION: 8th grade education required, High School grad or GED preferred
EXPERIENCE: none
SKILLS & ABILITIES: Good basic communication; ability to read information quickly & retain for use in processing; fast writing skills, computer familiarity
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing/sitting for extended periods of time; lifting up to 25 lbs; repetitive bending of wrists; audible recognition of computer error warning
EQUIPMENT: Centrifuge, box knife, laboratory coat, gloves, face shield, LED wand, computer terminal, face mask; computer terminal; laser printer
OTHER: Shifts extend until work is finished; weekend work is necessary; specimens consist of body fluids & must be regarded as potentially infectious; task of disposing of negative urine specimens
