Position Description

Working in our Higher Education business, the Editor will work with a team that manages the Microsoft academic publishing program and the Microsoft Official Academic Course set of titles. The Editor will oversee the development of new titles for new Microsoft product launches, sign and develop significant print and media ancillary packages to support titles, and work with sales and marketing to support current and future MOAC program. Specific duties will include managing the Information Worker publishing program and backlist, signing authors and contributors, managing authors and titles through the development process, managing relationships with Microsoft and other publishing partners, and contributing to editorial efforts on other technology publishing partnerships, including Sun Microsystems.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Four years publishing experience in editorial, sales, and/or marketing, with two years of book acquisitions. Proven expertise in acquiring and developing market-appropriate projects and supplements. In-depth knowledge of editorial responsibilities; thorough knowledge of the publishing process; understanding of the business implications of publishing decisions. Computer tech experience preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, and listening skills. Excellent computer skills required, especially of Microsoft products. Excellent analytical skills and judgment to identify opportunities and projects with high potential for success. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent time management skills; must be motivated and results-oriented. Strong negotiation skills to deal with authors. Financial management, negotiation, project management, and strategic planning and implementation abilities necessary. Travel required, including regular trips to Microsoft in Redmond, Washington.
