Sr. Programmer Analyst GENERAL SUMMARY The Programmer Analyst will be a member of Information Technology?s Business Reporting group, utilizing a large data warehouse environment. He/she will be familiar with reporting concepts and programming. The Programmer Analyst will analyze health care claims and enrollment data to assist in data selection and verification. The Programmer Analyst will become an expert on the specified data. Strong data analysis, SAS and SQL skills using Oracle or a similar relational database are necessary and will be part of everyday activities. Some UNIX and SharePoint knowledge will facilitate initial training. Familiarity with Cognos would be an asset. Some knowledge of the software development life cycle or project documentation would be helpful. The Programmer Analyst is responsible for a full range of activities which ensure the operational effectiveness and excellence of the Business Reporting department. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Daily activities will include data analysis, coding, testing, coordination, and documentation through the entire project life-cycle. Analyze health care data to assist in creation of report specifications and verification of report results. Write business reports using SQL and SAS and possibly Cognos. Assess business needs, issues, and ideas. Recommend effective strategies and action plans. Communicate results/recommendations to project team and business through written, verbal or formal presentation. Develop creative alternative solutions. Recommend action steps to team and client. Perform other duties as required. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Bachelor?s degree or equivalent experience. Significant experience (usually 5-7 years) in managed care or health care industry in the areas of data analysis and reporting. Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret detailed data analysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient with data analysis tools such as SQL and reporting tools such as SAS, knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, and MicroSoft applications, including Excel, Access, Word, MS Project, PowerPoint. Some UNIX and Cognos experience a plus.
