 GENERAL SUMMARY: Participate in the development and evaluation of standards for cyber security in a regulated environment. Defines, develops, and evaluates procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets, and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction working under limited supervision and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
 
 PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
 1. Participates in development and evaluation of standards and procedures necessary to ensure the safety of control systems and information systems assets, and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction;
 
 2. Interfaces with user and regulatory community to understand their security needs;
 
 3. Supports verification of compliance with standards necessary to maintain security;
 
 4. Identifies potential threats and vulnerabilities and provides proper responses;
 
 5. Evaluates risks of interfaces between non-traditional information technology such as RTUs, relay controls, SCADA systems and other connectivity enabled electrical transmission components.
 
 6. Determines causes of security violations and recommends corrective actions;
 
 7. Investigates cyber security incidents to understand the vulnerability and to recommend protective measures;
 
 8. Participates in audits of cyber security facilities to help determine compliance with cyber security standards;
 
 9. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced technical staff members, and may have supervisory responsibilities;
 
 10. May serve as a technical team or task leader;
 
 11. Helps to author research projects with the national laboratories and/or outside consulting firms and modify industry to identify cyber security vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation techniques. Helps to manage and evaluate these research projects.
 

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
 1. Requires 15 or more years of related experience in cyber security responsibility.
 
 2. Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience. 

 SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
 
 1. Expert knowledge of cyber security administration principles, methods, and techniques;
 
 2. Expert knowledge of the associated hardware, software, and equipment;
 
 3. Certification in one or more specific security areas may be required;
 
 4. Requires familiarity with domain structures, user authentication, and digital signatures;
 
 5. Requires understanding of intrusion detection and prevention theory and configuration;
 
 6. Experience with control system security is a significant plus.
 
 WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is typically performed in an office environment, which requires normal safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment.
