About Steele:Steele Elementary is located in the Washington Park area and serves approximately 400 students. At Steele we offer a challenging academic experience as we provide social, emotional, intellectual, physical, and creative instruction within all classrooms. We provide and highly value the following: three and four-year-old Early Childhood Education through 5th grade instruction, multi-age classrooms, library, computer and technology, drama, physical education, art, music, special education, Gifted and Talented, and the British Primary program. Steele Elementary strives to generate compassionate, honorable, creative, lifelong learners who will make a positive difference in the world and who enjoy learning.We believe the students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members should work jointly to provide a cohesive and respectful school environment. Combined, our educators have over 250 years of teaching experience. We have a wonderful community of highly involved parents and community members who volunteer countless hours at Steele. The PTA includes 129 parents and has raised over $100,000 per year for various school activities and an academic development fund.Objective:The candidate must: •exhibit a strong commitment to academic excellence and personal growth of every student, teacher, and staff member •possess excellent leadership and communication skills •exercise diplomacy in resolving conflicts within the school community •provide an in-depth knowledge of curriculum development and the Denver Plan •advocate and provide a voice for students, teachers, staff and parents •promote the Steele Code and lead by example •has knowledge and understanding of the British Primary Program •be willing to work with the British Primary and other teacher training programs •use CSAP scores, RTI, and Benchmark Tests to make data based decisions on how to further our school academically •plan, prepare and administer the school budget, including the translation of educational needs, goals, and objectives into budgetary terms in collaboration with teachers and staffThe expectation of the Steele elementary school principal is that 75% of the principal’s role will be spent on instruction, including being present in the classroom. We are seeking a visionary leader to join our community commitment to excellence in all areas of human development: intellectual, physical, social, and emotional.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:In Relationship to Students, the principal will: •foster and help challenge students to be critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, independent learners, and active participants in their communities •spend time getting to know the students •appreciate and respect differences so that all students feel included •have a presence in the classroom, the lunchroom, and on the playground •teach a class or unit to children from time to time •put the education and well-being of the students firstIn Relationship to Parents and Community, the principal will: •be available for parents at arrival and dismissal •provide strong leadership and support while trusting and valuing the ideas of parents •build strategic alliances to engage and mobilize the support of policymakers, unions, students, parents and the community •focus on the future and foster an innovative school culture based on a commitment to continuous improvement •have experience in budget administration and management including creativity in program funding and obtaining grants •utilize a marketing plan to enhance the community’s understanding and support of individual school-based and district-wide educational programs •value and promote the use of technology in education and as a means for communication with teachers, staff, parents, and the communityIn Relationship to Teachers and Staff, the principal will: •possess knowledge of Special Education laws and requirements •support all part-time personnel, Psychology, OT, PT, etc… •create a safe environment for discussions, problem solving, learning, and critical reflection •create organization and unity among the entire staff •value and promote physical education, drama, art, library, computer, and music •involve teachers and staff in decision making processes •provide constructive and professional feedback, coaching, and mentoring, and training •value and promote each and every classroom and philosophy equally •support and understand the importance of multi-age classrooms •provide strong leadership while trusting and valuing the professionalism of the staff •develop and implement effective management structures, strategies, and proceduresREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s Degree is required. Five to seven years of actual instructional/classroom experience as an educator is required.
