NDETechnician 

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

This position is in the Materials and Inspection Services (MIS) group and will report to the In Service Inspection Supervisor (ISI) in the corporate office located in Birmingham, AL. Thecandidateselected for this position should have an in-depth understanding of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) code and an in-depth knowledge of nondestructive examinations. In addition, the successful candidate should have one or more Level III NDE certifications in Ultrasonic, Eddy Current and/or Radiography Testing along with Level II (or higher) in Visual, Magnetic Particle and/or Dye Penetrant Testing in order to support implementation of the ISI programs at all three Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) plants. Last, the successful candidate is expected to take a leadership role by coordinating NDE contractors during site outages and interfacing with corporate/plant management. 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

Educational Requirements:Technical training in the area of nondestructive testing resulting in certification to Level III in Ultrasonic, Eddy Current and/or Radiographic Testing preferred. Technical training in the area of nondestructive testing resulting in certification to Level II or III in Visual, Magnetic Particle and/or Dye Penetrant Testing preferred.Engineering degree or associates degree in relevant field is acceptable. 

Background/Experience Requirements:Experience in using various NDE examination techniques is required (>10 years)Industrial site experience is preferred (5-10 years) Knowledge of nuclear or fossil power plant piping systems is preferred Demonstrated leadership assignments Experience working with industry groups such as ASNT, ASME, EPRI, INPO, NEI, etc. is preferred

Technical Requirements:Knowledge of ISI/NDE codes and standards (e.g., ASME XI and OM code) and associated NRC regulations Expert knowledge of NDE methods 

Other:Frequent travel required with extended overnight stays up to 30 or more days
