Position Description 

Planned Parenthood Online (PPOL) is the virtual gateway to Planned Parenthoods service, education, and advocacy. PPOL's New Media team seeks an intern to help further our goal of harnessing interactive technologies and social media to provide greater access to Planned Parenthoods health services, education, and opportunities for involvement. The intern will support Planned Parenthoods online strategy across various new media outlets, including websites, social networks, and blogs.

As part of her/his duties, the PPOL intern will

Monitor and update Planned Parenthoods presence on MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter.

Create and maintain a detailed record of affiliate social networking sites. 

Monitor and report on advancements in social media and research how they might be implemented to advance our presence on social networking. 

Complete a project on a topic of her/his choosing that will benefit Planned Parenthood's social networking work. 

Generate ideas for Planned Parenthood to further its work in new media. 

Provide general administrative support. 

The internship is unpaid and may qualify for school credit. It requires a commitment of 15-20 hours per week. Internship positions are available in New York City.

Qualifications 

Must be tech savvy and have experience and interest in working with various online media, including websites, social networks, and blogs (particularly MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter). Must possess a basic understanding of Microsoft Office, especially WordExcel. Knowledge of basic HTML a plus, but not required. Experience in marketing, sexuality education, and/or political advocacy a plus, but not required. Intern must share the values of Planned Parenthood.
