Assist the physicians, nurses, etc in group practice setting to provide the best possible medical care to patients in a caring and timely manner. Principle Responsibilities • Assist patients into exam rooms and prepares them for examination. Gathers patient’s history information and under the direction of the physician, provides educational information to the patient • Under the direction of the physician, performs EKG’s, phlebotomy, basic pulmonary function testing and CLIA waived testing • Obtains lab specimens, performs pulse oximetry, updrafts, assists with flexible sigmoidoscopy, and schedules test and consultations by other providers and completes necessary referral • Assists physicians with patient care as requested including assistance with minor surgical procedures • Decontaminates and sterilizes equipment and instruments as required • Measures and records vital signs, visual acuity and performs other patient care procedures • Accurately and in a timely manner, documents patient care and related data in the medical record • Maintains record and logs as required and documents all patient contacts in the record • Promptly answers and returns phone calls handling clinical concerns per physician’s orders in addition to calling in prescription refills per physician’s order • Assure exam rooms are properly stocked at sufficient levels • Maintain daily patient referral list for specified physician • Maintain lab log to assure return of all ordered lab results • Review superbills for accuracy • Participate in the quality improvement efforts of the department by collaborating with the other team members on areas of improvement, collecting data, problem solving and providing reports as needed • Additional duties such as: o Autoclave upkeep and spore testing o Refrigerator temperature o Lab cleanliness o Drug expirations o Empty sharps containers o Change Cidex solution monthly Physical Demands/Working Environment • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting patients • Exposure to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment • Required to work at any facility and be responsible for own transportation • Scheduled based on operational need. (rotate shifts, standby, AA, on-call) • Required to work extended periods of time at a video display terminal (VDT) • Experience traumatic situations including psychiatric, dismembered and deceased patients Basic Qualifications Skills • Possess strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate with patients, physicians, management, center staff and community agencies • Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate actions in questionable or emergency situations • Computer literate • Skilled in the development and maintenance of quality assurance practices • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, center staff, management, and community agencies • Willingness and ability to become cross-trained in several functional areas of work at the clinic Experience • Two years of experience as a Medical Assistant • Knowledgeable of ICD-9 coding and medical terminology and other medical records maintenance procedures Education • High School Diploma or equivalent required • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, two year nursing program, State Certification as a Medical Assistant, LVN or comparable credentials We are proud to be an EEO/AA employer M/F/D/V.
