Nonclinical testing is conducted throughout all phases of drug development and, when done well, can maximize the chances of success in the clinical phases. The goal of our nonclinical studies is to determine which compounds have the greatest probability of success, and to build a solid scientific foundation that spans all stages of clinical development. Covance offers comprehensive services in all areas of nonclinical drug development including toxicology, pharmacology, metabolism, bioanalysis, pharmaceutical analysis and biosafety testing in support of nonclinical drug development.

Covance Labs North America is seeking a Senior Principal Investigator for its Immunochemistry department in Scottsdale Arizona. 

As a Senior Principal Investigator with Covance, you will: 

- Have overall responsibility for client interaction and the technical conduct of a study as well as for the interpretation, analysis, documentation, and reporting of results. 
- Represents the single point of control for Immunochemistry projects. 
- Coordinates the efforts of the study team. 
- Compiles and communicates study requirements to the appropriate study team members. 
- Develops protocols, study outlines and reports, including any alterations or client comments are approved and in compliance with appropriate SOPs, GLPs and appropriate regulatory agency guidelines. 
- Monitors progress and status of assigned studies. Ensures that all experimental data, including observations of unanticipated responses to the test system, are accurately recorded and verified. 
- Works with the study team to troubleshoot and solve assay problems as necessary. 
- Reviews reports for scientific accuracy and completeness. 
- Provides technical/scientific guidance and leadership to the study team as well as other areas of the company to ensure project completion. 
- Performs post-project analysis of study team and study performance to assure client expectations are met. 
- Reviews cost estimates for appropriateness and accuracy. 
- Assures that complex studies are reviewed and cost estimates are appropriate. 
- Monitors financial status of ongoing studies. 
- Leads and sponsors major client visits. 
- Responsible for ensuring that any unforeseen circumstances that may effect the quality and integrity of the study are identified and documented as they occur and corrective action is taken. 
- Responds to unscheduled deadlines, client needs, crises, etc., without neglecting other duties. 
- On a broad basis, able to apply principles, theories, and concepts of Immunochemistry. Applies a working knowledge of related disciplines. 
- Acts as a mentor to less-experienced scientific staff. 
- Introduces new technologies and enhances existing methodologies in Immunochemistry.. 
- Conducts scientific meetings and provides leadership in scientific organizations, including publishing research findings and attaining peer recognition through contributing to the field of Immunochemistry 
- Develop innovative plans to meet client needs.

 Education/Qualifications - PhD in chemistry, or equivalent degree, plus 2-5 years of experience in the immunochemistry field.
- Experience may be subtituted for education. 5-7 years required with a MS degree or 7-10 years required with a BS degree.

 Experience - Proficiency in project management skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory agency guidelines. 
- Ability to conduct review of related literature and references to obtain the required information and subsequently apply it. 
- Development and Validation of Immunochemistry assays in a GLP compliant laboratory environment would be optimal.
- Hands on experience and knowledge of development of ELISA / RIA and use of SoftMax Pro data reduction software a plus. 
- Skilled in performing scientific presentations and preparing scientific publications. 
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
