The Senior Automation Specialist maintains the technical integrity of the data system infrastructure, provides technical support and manages the communication network capital budget for gas measurement electronic data communication and well-head automation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Ensures the flow of accurate information from the remote devices to the end users.
* Provides technical support to and oversees/directs instrument technicians' tasks associated with the monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of communication systems.
* Manages contractors to install new communication infrastructure and upgrade existing infrastructure to reduce outages and operating costs.
* Manages communication capital budget and O&M expenditures.
* Trains internal employees and contractors on current and new technologies.
* Evaluates new communication technologies and the applicability of such technologies to Equitable's infrastructure.
* Develops and documents company design standards (including drawings and bills of material), approved vendor lists and current infrastructure.
* Assists in the development of long-term measurement communications plan.
REQUIREMENTS:
* High school diploma or equivalent; and
* At least six years of experience in the communications field which demonstrates a knowledge of various industry protocols and standards like DNP, MODBUS, RS-232, Ethernet and fiber optic communication OR
* An equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Experience with data communications technologies including land line (phone), cell phone, radio, and satellite.
* Understanding of gas engineering principles and gas measurement standards including AGA 3, AGA 7, AGA 9, and the National Electric Code.
* Knowledge of field RTU's and meter interface technologies.
* Strong communication and project management skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Advanced degree in computer science, engineering or electronic or engineering technology preferred.
